Genesis Chapter 2

Genesis Chapter 2

Chapter 2 is simply an account of only certain events of the whole Creation account in chapter 1.

(Genesis 2:1 [KJV])
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
  • And all the host of them would include both stars and morning stars
  • Finished means there is not more Creation going on, and definitely not evolution
(Genesis 2:2 [KJV])
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made;and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
  • This is where we get our week from, according to the rest of the Bible
(Exodus 20:8-11 [KJV])
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

(Exodus 34:21 [KJV])
Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.

THE TIMES WILL BE CHANGED TO PROVE THE GOD OF THE BIBLE "DOES NOT EXIST"

(Daniel 7:25, KJV)
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time

(Genesis 2:4 [KJV])
These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
  • This is the detailed account coming up, as opposed to the generalized mention of it here
  • This has to have been written first by Adam, the only person who got the dictation
  • "The earth and the heavens".....the order is in the order of importance to God
  • The word day, by context, means the time of the Creation, this past week's recap.
(Genesis 2:5 [KJV])
And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
  • This is simply describing the creation preparation for mankind to be described after
  • This is the garden, not all plants, or there would be a contradiction with chapter one's Creation Account
(Genesis 2:6 [KJV])
But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
  • There was no weather per se as of yet, just a greenhouse effect and watering of the plants by this mist, fog, rain, continuously, creating lush greenery worldwide
(Genesis 2:7 [KJV])
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
  • This is a unique creation, of mankind
  • Breath and blood are our physical life, without which we cannot live
  • There is a personal touch, God breathing into this pile of dust.
  • Man has a soul, a spirit and flesh-Adam had all three alive like we do when we are saved
(Genesis 2:8 [KJV])
And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
  • This is not the Creation of the regular plants, this is the place where man dwelt, a Garden of Eden
  • The precise and narrowed account is to show the importance of mankind to God, His love for Adam and Eve to give them all that they needed
(Genesis 2:9 [KJV])
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
  • The free will choice prepared for man
  • This is the preparation of the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life
  • It was truly "all that was in their world" at this point
(1 John 2:16 [KJV])
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

(Genesis 2:10-12 [KJV])
And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
  • Self-explanatory, and this world no longer exists Post-Flood, or is deeply buried
  • "Ethiopia" is apparently the location
  • The Nile River flows from Egypt to Ethiopia today; borders then are of course unknown
(Genesis 2:15 [KJV])
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
  • "To dress and to keep it" means he would have to physically touch the plants.
(Genesis 2:16 [KJV])
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
  • This is the only command given, Adam's Law and One Commandment
  • Today some of the plants he could eat then are thorny, poisonous, bitter
(Genesis 2:17 [KJV])
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
  • This is the only tree, the Forbidden Fruit Tree
  • One is the number of unity in the Bible...one God, one Man, one command, one tree, one fruit
  • Somehow they knew of the goodness of God; they did not have direct knowledge of evil and its potential effects on Creation
(Genesis 2:18 [KJV])
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
  • It is two truths for man, not good for him to be alone
  • He is alone in that animals are not his actual companions, nor is he able to be fruitful multiply with them
(Genesis 1:28 [KJV])
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

(Genesis 2:19 [KJV])
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
  • Simply a narrative of Genesis 1, Day five, then six
  • Ground means the surface, not which materials. The water was on the ground, as it is today
GROUND, n.
  1. The surface of land or upper part of the earth, without reference to the materials which compose it. We apply ground to soil, sand or gravel indifferently, but never apply it to the whole mass of the earth or globe, nor to any portion of it when removed. We never say a shovel full or a load of ground. We say under ground, but not under earth; and we speak of the globe as divided into land and water, not into ground and water. Yet ground, earth and land are often used synonymously. We say, the produce or fruits of the ground, of the earth, or of land. The water overflows the low ground, or the low land.
There was not a man to till the ground. Gen 2.
The ground shall give its increase. Zec 8.
The fire ran along on the ground. Exo 9.
  2. Region; territory; as Egyptian ground; British ground; heavenly ground.
  3. Land; estate; possession.
Thy next design is on thy neighbor's grounds.
  4. The surface of the earth, or a floor or pavement.
Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground. 1 Sam 5.
  5. Foundation; that which supports any thing. This argument stands on defensible ground. Hence,
  6. Fundamental cause; primary reason or original principle. He stated the grounds of his complaint.
Making happiness the ground of his unhappiness.
  7. First principles; as the grounds of religion.
  8. In painting, the surface on which a figure or object is represented; that surface or substance which retains the original color, and to which the other colors are applied to make the representation; as crimson on a white ground.
  9. In manufactures, the principal color, to which others are considered as ornamental.
  10. Grounds, plural, the bottom of liquors; dregs; lees; feces; as coffee grounds; the grounds of strong beer.
  11. The plain song; the tune on which descants are raised.
On that ground, I'll build a holy descant.
  12. In etching, a gummous composition spread over the surface of the metal to be etched, to prevent the nitric acid from eating, except where the ground is opened with the point of a needle.
  13. Field or place of action. He fought with fury, and would not quit the ground.
  14. In music, the name given to a composition in which the base, consisting of a few bars of independent notes, is continually repeated to a continually varying melody.
  15. The foil to set a thing off.
  16. Formerly, the pit of a play house. To gain ground, to advance; to proceed forward in conflict; as, an army in battle gains ground. Hence, to obtain an advantage; to have some success; as, the army gains ground on the enemy. Hence,
(Genesis 2:20 [KJV])
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
  • Animals are not suitable mates for man-none, even chimps, apes, dogs, etc.
  • Emphasis on "help", not "head"

(Genesis 2:21 [KJV])
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
  • This defeats the whole "molecules to man" myth, since you cannot explain "rib to Eve" with it.
  • People's ribs are the only bone that regenerates and so would be suitable to make Eve and still have all of the same number of ribs
(Genesis 2:22 [KJV])
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
  • He brought her to Adam, he did not go to get or to find her
(Genesis 2:23 [KJV])
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
  • This is the marriage relationship, as close as two people can get
1 Corinthians 11:7-9 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

(Genesis 2:24 [KJV])
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
  • This is the marriage description for us today, based upon this model of the first couple
  • Nobody is more important than the spouse ,not even children
  • This is a God-made boundary for all to obey, even in-laws, no exceptions and God's doing, not man's and it is universal for marriage
(Genesis 2:25 [KJV])
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
  • Sin is not in the world yet, so nakedness is not shameful
  • Today it is why we wear clothing, that and weather conditions.
  1. Creation complete
  2. Man in a perfect world, with wife
  3. Man given the only command, about one tree, one fruit
  4. Marriage complete
  5. All is "very good"
