Isaiah Chapter 12

Isaiah 12:1

And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.
  • "That day" is the Millennium
  • Anger turned away is only at the Cross
  • He is the God of all comfort
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. Isaiah 12:2
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
  • This contains an eternal, universal truth-God is salvation, freely available to all
  • Trust means fear evaporates
  • This leads to praise, always
Isaiah 12:3
Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
John 7:37

  • Known, acknowledged, by all-a glorious day indeed

Isaiah Chapter 11

Isaiah Chapter 11

Isaiah Chapter 11

Isaiah 11:1
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

  • Israel's first king, king Saul, was chosen by man, because the people wanted to be like the other nations around them
  • David was chosen by God, because God wanted to be their king, thus the line of succession to God (Jesus) being the King of Israel
  • Jesus Christ is both the root(source) and the outcome of the Royal line on the Throne which was established forever, which is why Jesus said what He said to the Pharisees in Matthew 22
  • Olive trees are best propagated from cuttings, and they are virtually indestructible trees which, when hewn, grow back and produce fruit
  • Olive trees grow in all kinds of soils, can take dry, desert heat, and are symbols of endurance, tenacity, fruitfulness, peace (the leaves)
  • The dove Noah released to check on the receding flood waters brought back an olive leaf which it plucked from a branch, showing it was a survivor of the flood

ISRAEL, AND THE OLIVE TREE

Genesis 8:11
And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

Job 14:7-9
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

Romans 11:16-25
For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

JESSE, THE THRONE OF DAVID, AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST:

Matthew 1:6
And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

Matthew 22:41-46
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

    • Counsel and Might (Isaiah 9:6)
    • Knowledge and the Fear of the LORD
  • The Trinity is here (the Spirit, the LORD, HIM(Jesus)
  • Jesus Christ was totally led by the Spirit His entire life, perfectly
  • Isaiah is the only prophet to mention the Holy Spirit by name, and that was done twice
  • Wisdom, understanding, counsel-answers, comfort, help

WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING

Isaiah Chapter 10

Isaiah Chapter 10

Isaiah Chapter 10

It is important, for the present context, to read 2 Kings chapters 18-19

(Isaiah 10:1)
Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
  • They speak and write evil
  • These decrees are spoken and written by them, but for you, not them
  • They write laws for others which they will not apply to themselves and their loved ones
  • This practice continued until the days of Jesus on earth, and still continues today
(Luke 11:45-46)
Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

(Matthew 23:4)
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

(Isaiah 10:2-4)
To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless! And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory? Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

  • God is not against wealth
  • God is against greed, and not using that wealth for His Glory
  • They were storing up treasures upon earth
  • Again, taking advantage of the weak
  • Their glory was to themselves ("and where will ye leave your glory?")
  • For this they will be left as they left their victims-helpless, vulnerable.......as prey
  • And God STILL seeks them to repent and return to Him ("His Hand is stretched out still")
(Matthew 6:19-20)
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

(Luke 12:33)
Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

(Isaiah 10:5)
O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
  • This is more proof that God can use anything and anyone, even pagans, even animals, even the anti-Christ, even US!
  • This rod and staff are in direct contrast to God's Rod and Staff in love
  • God raises up these wicked oppressors and destroyers to fulfill His oerfect will and bring judgment
  • God's rod and staff can either comfort you-or kill you!
  • Just remember that, when God is done using this evil rod, He will then destroy it.
Psalms 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

(Exodus 9:16)
And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

(Romans 9:17)
For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee (that is, pharaoh) up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

(Isaiah 10:6)
I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
  • God's chosen nation, as hypocrites
  • This practice was due to willful blindness and led to more blindness and was called by Jesus foolishness
  • God's chosen nation, as objects of His Holy Wrath-not good
  • The Assyrians will be under direct order from the Captain of the Host
  • They were to be salt, now they are useless to God, to be walked all over like they did to the innocents, the defenseless and the helpless
  • Their lack of mercy and judgment, recompensed
  • They were both instructed and warned in their own law by God Himself, through Moses
Exodus 22:22-24
Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

Psalms 68:5
A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

Matthew 5:13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

THE HYPOCRISY OF THE LEADERS

Matthew 23:13-29
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

(Isaiah 10:7)
Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
  • God put it into his heart, but he did not know that
  • With mindless, careless, reckless disregard, just because he can, being allowed by God, he will conquer and destroy all nations he can

GOD'S WILL, MENS' HEARTS

(Exodus 35:34)
And he hath put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.

(1 Kings 10:24)
And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

(Jeremiah 31:33)
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

(Hebrews 8:10)
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

(Revelation 17:17)
For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

(Isaiah 10:8)
For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?
  • If his princes are kings, is he himself declaring himself to be God?
(Isaiah 10:9)
Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?
  • These cities are in a list of the conquests of Assyria
  • It is like bragging, saying that, "I have declared that they are ALREADY toast and history; I just have to do it"
  • Calno:Probably in Syria (Kalneh, Kulna), six miles or so from Arpad
  • Little can be known about Calno, and it is apparently not the same as Calno in Genesis
  • Carchemish: by the Euphrates
  • Hamath:
  • Arpad:

Calno

(Amos 6:2) Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

Carchemish

(2 Chronicles 35:20)
After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Carchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him.

(Jeremiah 46:2)
Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

Hamath

  • A fortified citadel of Syria, north of Damascus
  • Scene of many battles with Babylon, Syria
  • Also a Hittite city, from inscriptions found there
  • Hamathites were listed in the Genesis 10 list of nations
  • Moses sent his spies there to look into the land of the Canaanites
  • Numbers 34, it was on the northern border of the territory of the entire land grant to Israel by God
  • It was one of the last places to be conquered by Joshua, in his old age (Joshua 13:6)
  • It was not taken, and the five lords of the Philistines were left to "prove Israel" (Judges 3:3
(Genesis 10:18)
And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

(Numbers 13:21)
So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

(Numbers 34:8)
From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad:

(Joshua 13:5)
And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baalgad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.

(Judges 3:3)
Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baalhermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

(2 Samuel 8:9)
When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

(1 Kings 8:65)
And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.

(2 Kings 14:25)
He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher.

(2 Kings 14:28) Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

(2 Kings 17:24)
And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.

(2 Kings 17:30)
And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

(2 Kings 18:34)
Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?

(2 Kings 19:13)
Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah?

(2 Kings 23:33)
And Pharaohnechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

(2 Kings 25:21)
And the king of Babylon smote them, and slew them at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away out of their land.

(1 Chronicles 1:16)
And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite.

(1 Chronicles 18:3)
And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

(1 Chronicles 18:9)
Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;

(2 Chronicles 7:8)
Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.

(2 Chronicles 8:3)
And Solomon went to Hamathzobah, and prevailed against it.

(2 Chronicles 8:4)
And he built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store cities, which he built in Hamath.

(Isaiah 11:11)
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

(Isaiah 36:19)
Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

(Isaiah 37:13)
Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?

(Jeremiah 39:5)
But the Chaldeans' army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.

(Jeremiah 49:23)
Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.

(Jeremiah 52:9)
Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.

(Jeremiah 52:27)
And the king of Babylon smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land.

(Ezekiel 47:16)
Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon, which is by the coast of Hauran.

(Ezekiel 47:17)
And the border from the sea shall be Hazarenan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.

(Ezekiel 47:20)
The west side also shall be the great sea from the border, till a man come over against Hamath. This is the west side.

(Ezekiel 48:1)
Now these are the names of the tribes. From the north end to the coast of the way of Hethlon, as one goeth to Hamath, Hazarenan, the border of Damascus northward, to the coast of Hamath; for these are his sides east and west; a portion for Dan.

(Amos 6:2)
Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

(Zechariah 9:1-2)
The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD. And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise.

(Isaiah 10:10)
As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
  • False gods never save from the wrath of the One True God
(Isaiah 10:11)
Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
  • Thinking that, being God's Chosen People, they would be spared destruction for their idolatry, was a huge mistake
  • He is saying that his gods are better than the God of Israel, and better than their idols as well
(Isaiah 10:12)
Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
  • The task of the rod and staff of God's anger well then be complete; so now it will be time to discard them
(Isaiah 10:13)
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:
  • I did it all by myself, "Look at Me!"
  • One thing evil rulers forget is that God is sovereign, and put them in place for His purposes, and they can only do His will
  • Pontius Pilate thought he had the power to crucify Jesus
(John 19:11)
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

(Proverbs 16:19)
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

(Isaiah 10:14)
And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.
  • Like free eggs, taken from an empty nest, so this king thinks the spoils of war are
  • To him it was like, "Stealing candy from a baby"
  • He thinks after this that he is king over the world, in his pride
  • He thinks nothing and no one can stop him
(Isaiah 10:15)
Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
  • The implied answer to these is no, not at all.
  • God created him, like the maker makes the axe and the saw, the rod and the staff
  • Nothing is self-made......nothing
(Isaiah 10:16)
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
  • Because of their pride, the Assyrians will also be destroyed
(Proverbs 16:18)
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

(Isaiah 10:17)
And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;
  • God is light, and a consuming fire
  • Assyria is like briers and thorns to Israel
  • They burn quickly when dried out

(Isaiah 10:18)
And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.
  • When a person holding a flag in a parade falls over, there goes the glory
(Isaiah 10:19)
And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.
  • Children who are small do not count very high, compared to an innumerable amount of trees in a forest
  • The glory of his kingdom, his military might, will be decimated
(Isaiah 10:20)
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.
  • In the Millennial Kingdom of Christ:
    • There will be only a remnant left of Israelites
    • They will be with the LORD Jesus Christ at His return, rule, reign
    • They will stay fixed on, walking with Jesus
    • It will be genuine, with no enemies to threaten or distract
  • They will not be thinking about who persecuted and tried to annihilated them throughout their long history

(Isaiah 10:22)
For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness. For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.
  • Their destruction in judgment and national discipline, humiliation, disgrace will be turned by God into something glorious
  • No man can ever do such a thing, no "Phoenix Rising out of the ashes" without the LORD Himself
(Isaiah 10:24)
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
  • Do not fear man

(Matthew 10:28)
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

(Luke 12:4-5)
And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

AFTER THE MANNER OF EGYPT

(Exodus 1:8-14)
Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:   And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.

(Exodus 5:6)
And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying, Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves. And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words. And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished. So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw. And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw. And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?
Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants? There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people. But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD. Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks. And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task. And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

(Acts 7:18-19)
Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph. The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

(Isaiah 10:25)
For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.
  • A few lessons in just one verse
    • Life is a vapour
    • God is indignant and angry with sin
    • God's righteous judgment of that sin removes that indignation and anger
    • God is righteous, holy in His anger and indignation
    • We must wait on the LORD
    • He always has the best for Israel IN THE END, and us also
    • There are a dozen messages right here on the brevity of life (Isaiah 40:7-8, 1 Peter 1:24-25, James, Job, Psalm 144)

(James 4:14)
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

(Hebrews 10:36-37)
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

(Isaiah 10:26)
And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
  • This is of significance, since this is repeated from Isaiah 9:4

Judges 7:19-25
So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands. And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon. And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled. And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath. And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.
And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

(Isaiah 10:27)
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
  • ppppp

(Isaiah 10:28-31)
He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages: They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled. Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth. Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
  • Coming (Aiath), passing to (Migron), stalling the horses, fatigued from the war (Michmash), lodging (Geba), terrorizing (Ramah, Gibeah of Saul), causing crying, wailing, screaming, (Gallim, Laish, Anathoth), annihilating(Madmenah), causing to gather and flee (Gebim), ceasing (Nob, verse 32)
  • These are all pretty much in a straight line, north to south, and the swath of Assyrian destruction, roughly in their order of geography
(Isaiah 10:32)
As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
  • God stops the Assyrian conquest at HIS city, as He is in Sovereign over all, has total control and gets the final say
  • When God decrees protection for Jerusalem, there is nothing any enemy can do to her
  • When God decrees destruction, there is nothing any Jew can do, as happened in A.D. 70.
(Matthew 24:2)
And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

(Luke 19:44)
And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

(Isaiah 10:33-34)
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
  • Because our lives are like those of plants, they either wither away or are cut down, hewn down, lopped
  • Only the Word of GOd will stand through it all
(1 Peter 1:24-25) For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Isaiah Chapter 9

isaiah chapter 9

Isaiah Chapter 9

(Isaiah 9:1)
Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
  • The northern part of Israel saw the first of the northern invaders, obviously
  • This is their darkness, so their light is then first at the ministry of Jesus Christ
Matthew 4:15-16
The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

(Luke 1:79)
To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

(Isaiah 9:2)
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
  • This is the prophecy for the opening of Jesus Ministry, in this area of the north where the invasion would start, so they who first saw the darkness come will first see the light arrive
  • The fulfillment of this is in all of the Gospels
  • Matthew 4:12, Mark 1:14, Mark 2:21, Luke 4:14, John 2:1
  • It is also where Jesus Christ was first rejected
FULFILLMENT IN THE GOSPELS
Matthew 4:12-17
Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mark 1:21
And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

Luke 4:28-30
And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

John 2:1
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

(Isaiah 9:3)
Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
  • It would seem that the physical blessing of this world do not bring anyone joy, not even being God's chosen nation
(Isaiah 9:4)
For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
  • God gets the victory, and the Glory
  • God show how few soldiers are necessary to win over an impossible enemy
  • This is solely on faith, not might or power
  • Jesus Christ will break the bonds of all oppression today and always, for anyone who accepts Him and His sacrificial, substitutional death on the Cross for their sins and as their personal LORD and Saviour
  • The rod and staff of the LORD are the opposite to that of any man on earth
(Psalms 23:4 [KJV])
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Judges Chapter 7: VICTORY OVER AND IN MIDIAN

CONTEXT

Judges 6:5-6
For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

Judges 7:1-2
Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley. And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

  • With too many soldiers, man can claim a victory not his(v.2)
  • The odds, in man's mind, are not so impossible here yet
Judges 7:3-7
Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand. And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink. And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water. And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
  • Fear is a good factor or method to cull any army for battle
  • Two thirds down is a lot of shrinkage, but God is not done
  • Dogs were considered nothing and still are throughout the world, especially the Middle East
  • Possibly few would want to be known drinking like a dog and God knows this
  • This therefore will lower the numbers way down by yet another 97%
  • Now, with only 300 men, the odds are finally impossible against "an innumerable enemy"

Judges 7:8-14
So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley. And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host: And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host. And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude. And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

  • The host of the Midianites had to have filled the entire valley-against the ragtag 300 man army of Israel
  • A prophecy of sure victory, increasing faith, proving God's Sovereignty, love, protection, preservation, promise
  • Barley cakes were common throughout the Bible

Judges 7:15-18
And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian. And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do. When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

  • Knowing one has the victory already means it is reason and it is time to worship
  • The Sword of the LORD is God's Word-it's offensive as a weapon, all one needs for salvation from the enemy, perfect, twoedged (cuts both ways), and is God's promise of protection, salvation
  • See Psalm 119
(Hebrews 4:12 )
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

(Revelation 1:16 )
And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

(Revelation 2:16 )
Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

(Ephesians 6:17 )
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

(Revelation 19:15 )
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

  • Like this victory over Midian, Israel is told they will again emerge victorious over the Assyrian rampage, and all enemies, one day

********************************************

(Isaiah 9:5)
For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

  • The Return of the LORD Jesus Christ will include this victory of fire to destroy His enemies
  • The blood on earth at that time will be from the wars of the nations against Israel and against each other-plus the martyrdoms of the believers by the anti-christ's short-lived kingdom

(Revelation 14:20)
And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

(2 Thessalonians 1:7-8)
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

(Hebrews 12:29 )
For our God is a consuming fire.

(Isaiah 9:6-7)
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

  • The Christmas card verse!
  • The "us" is the nation of Israel, from Abraham's promises to Davids Eternal Throne
  • "a son" is THE SON of God, God the Son
  • "the government" is in the Millennial Kingdom and all of Eternity
  • Jesus Christ is indeed Wonderful, full of Wonder
  • There is no better counsel than His Word
  • Mighty God, His Deity
  • Prince of Peace. His peace surpasses all understanding. His Peace He leaves us, not like the "peace" of this world
(Isaiah 9:8)
The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
  • God has spoken to them through his prophets, and now Isaiah
(Isaiah 9:9)
And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,
  • Pride kills, and will kill them also soon, with the remnant left
  • Rebellion is an offshoot of pride, since one will rebel from God, if they think they are great

STOUTNESS, n.
1. Strength; bulk.
2. Boldness; fortitude.
3. Obstinacy; stubbornness.

(Isaiah 9:10)
The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

  • But a lack of national repentance and a desire to continue in the rebellion
  • This is the word of God rejected(1 Samuel 15:23)
REBELLION, STUBBORNNESS-"STOUTNESS OF HEART"
(Ezekiel 28:15 )
Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

(1 Samuel 15:23)
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

(Isaiah 9:11)
Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;
  • The reason for the invasion, destruction is simple: PRIDE
(Isaiah 9:12)
The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
  • Surrounded on two fronts, engulfed, eaten, chewed up, swallowed
(Isaiah 9:13)
For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.
  • Again the reason is that they walked away and now refuse to come back
(Isaiah 9:14)
Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
  • Each enemy on each end to cut off that end-using body parts and plants to describe it
(Isaiah 9:15)
The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
  • Dead are the wise sages, dead are the false prophets
  • This was Israel's job to remove false teachers
(Deuteronomy 18:20)
But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

(Isaiah 9:16)
For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

  • Leadership leading the flock astray who are supposed to lead them toward the LORD
  • Shepherds lead and sheep follow.....that is natural.....to where they will follow is to where they shepherd leads, either good or bad
  • Shepherds are accountable to God more for their role
  • They also are attacked more, and need prayer for that
  • Throughout Israel's colored history, there were always those who led Israel astray, and here in the reign of Ahaz there is no exception
SHEPHERDS OF SHEEP:AHAZ
(2 Chronicles 28:1-3)
Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father: For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim. Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
  • Idolatry (molten images of Baal)
  • Burnt incense (exclusive duty of priests)
  • "The Valley of Hinnom" is a place for intense idolatry, groves of trees and child sacrifices of the past
  • Child sacrifice
  • According to the people that God cast out, for their benefit in order to worship Him, and be separate, because they were abominable
  • This practice still continues today throughout the world, as abortion (child sacrifice), idolatry never ceases
SHEPHERDS OF SHEEP: PASTORS
(Hebrews 13:17 [KJV])
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

(Hebrews 13:7 [KJV])
Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

(James 3:1 [KJV])
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

(Isaiah 9:17)
Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

  • Since God told them that they were ignoring the plight of the innocent and helpless widows and orphans, this is the judgment for that
  • And yet..........His Hand is stretched out still, seeking fellowship, repentance, wanting to forgive them
(Isaiah 9:18)
For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
  • Dry brush in large numbers, plus fire, means a raging inferno, unstoppable
  • Wickedness comes in like that.......subtly at first, then increases rapidly and then exponentially as more and more people are consumed with religious fervor
  • Add to this God being an all consuming fire in judgment, and this is a recipe for absolute cremation
GOD: A CONSUMING FIRE
(Deuteronomy 4:24)
For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

(Deuteronomy 9:3)
Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.

(Hebrews 12:29)
For our God is a consuming fire.

(Isaiah 9:19)
Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

  • The tow, the spark, the fuel of fire, darkening, all consumption of the idolaters
  • A remnant shall be left, but the rest shall be consumed in God's wrath, using the Assyrian enemy in judgment
(Isaiah 9:20)
And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:
  • Famine, from the crops and all plants being consumed, nothing left but cannibalism
  • This is where worshiping false gods leads to in the end. There may be sin for a season, but judgment of sin is forever
(Hebrews 11:25 [KJV]) Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

(Ezekiel 5:10)
Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments in thee, and the whole remnant of thee will I scatter into all the winds.

THE HOPE, THE REMNANT OF ISRAEL
(Romans 11:4)
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

(1 Kings 19:18)
Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

(1 Kings 12:23)
Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

(2 Kings 19:4)
It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left.

(2 Kings 19:30)
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

(2 Kings 19:31)
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

(2 Chronicles 30:6)
So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.

(2 Chronicles 34:9)
And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.

(Ezra 3:8)
Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD.

(Ezra 9:8)
And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

(Nehemiah 1:3)
And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

(Isaiah 1:9)
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

(Isaiah 10:20)
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

(Isaiah 10:21)
The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

(Isaiah 10:22)
For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

(Isaiah 11:16)
And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

(Isaiah 14:22)
For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.

(Isaiah 37:4)
It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left. (Isaiah 37:31)
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

(Isaiah 37:32)
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

(Isaiah 46:3)
Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:

(Jeremiah 6:9)
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

(Jeremiah 23:3)
And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.

(Jeremiah 31:7) For thus saith the LORD; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

(Jeremiah 40:11)
Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

(Jeremiah 40:15)
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

(Jeremiah 41:16)
Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:

(Jeremiah 42:2)
And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

(Jeremiah 42:15)
And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

(Jeremiah 42:19)
The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

(Jeremiah 43:5)
But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;

(Jeremiah 44:12)
And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

(Jeremiah 44:28) Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.

(Ezekiel 6:8)
Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.

(Ezekiel 11:13)
And it came to pass, when I prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel?

(Ezekiel 14:22)
Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

(Joel 2:32) And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. (Amos 5:15) Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

(Micah 2:12)
I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.

(Micah 4:7)
And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

(Micah 5:3) Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.

(Micah 5:7)
And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

(Micah 5:8)
And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

(Micah 7:18)
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

(Zephaniah 2:7)
And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.

(Zephaniah 2:9)
Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

(Zephaniah 3:13)
The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

(Haggai 1:12)
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.

(Haggai 1:14) And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

(Zechariah 8:6)
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.

(Zechariah 8:12)
For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.

(Romans 9:27) Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: (Romans 11:5) Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. (Revelation 12:17) And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

(Isaiah 9:21)
Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

The Word of God

THE WORD OF GOD, ITS OWN WITNESS

  1. God claims in the the Bible that the Bible is His Word hundreds of times
  2. God speaks any language, and invented them all
  3. God can translate
  4. God inspired it
  5. God promised to preserve it
  6. God put strong warnings on tampering with His Word and words(Deuteronomy 4:2, Proverbs 30:5-6. Revelation 22:18-19)
  7. God never said that the New Testament would be in Greek instead of Hebrew, but no one questioned that
  8. They do not speak Koine Greek today, only classical Greek, nor do we read, pray, preach in Greek or Hebrew in our churches today
  9. Different words mean different meanings (Proverbs 30)
  10. God never promised to preserve "meanings"..........but actual words, every one of them
  11. God never wanted people to be scholars to know His Word, nor to learn a foreign language
  12. God never once spoke of "scholars" in a good light, and Paul counted that part of himself as dung
  13. God used the scribes and preserved it
  14. The Septuagint is a Greek translation of the Old Testament, but is not from God
    • This is evidenced by the facts IN the Bible:
    • God specifically instructed the Jews never to return to Egypt(the world, like us)
    • NOTHING GOOD but liberalism ever came from Alexandria
    • Some accounts say 70 scribes went (septa=seventy), but it was 72 scribes
    • The Septuagint was not ever blessed by God and not considered part of the Canon when it was translated in 1611, as it contains doctrinal, geographical and theological errors
    • It is in the small MINORITY of mss, not the majority
    • Any mss like it that is not worn out was not used of God
  15. God is not interested in "the originals", nor do we have any today. In fact He had two burned and we still have them in our Bible
  16. NO ONE ALIVE TODAY has ever seen "an original", so the claim, "We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the verbally inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed." is completely false in every way
  17. The scribes process of copying a mss was so exact it was better than a Xerox today
  18. God said EVERY WORD would be pure, precious, and preserved forever
  19. God's Word is eternal and can exist apart from paper, ink, computers, billboards, T-shirt, stone carvings, etc.
  20. The enemy hates God's Word, and has always had his own
  21. There have always been deliberately corrupted mss, starting in Genesis 3
  22. There have always been two distinct lines of The Word of God and "the word of god"
  23. This practice was in Paul's day (2 Corinthians 2:17)
  24. No one IN the Bible who walked with God corrected His Word
  25. There is no reason to INSPIRE the Word, then lose it, only to have last days scholars "recover, restore" it.
  26. Is your salvation lost, or is it dependent on that "lost" Word being restored?
  27. We no longer have ALL of the mss anyways today
  28. Your own salvation rests upon its perfection from a Holy God
  29. It reads exactly the same as it did in 1611, with very slight pronunciation differences, differences in spelling
  30. All languages devolve, and English was at its height in the early 1600s
  31. The Catholic Mass, done only in Latin, was to exclude the Catholics from knowing what God said. The same today is the person who proclaims, "But in the original Greek" or "In the original Hebrew" or "In the original language" is doing the same, implying or even outright proclaiming that, unless the person reads "the Greek" or "the Hebrew", they cannot fully understand the Word of God, as "it does not translate" or "it is an unfortunate mistranslation from the Greek"(or the Hebrew)
  32. Check the definition in any old Webster's ENGLISH dictionary and you will find that "Greek definition" or "Hebrew definition" listed there
  33. Only one line of mss, and one Bible, was preserved through the deaths of martyrs, and only one English Bible was forbidden to be translated. Period.
  34. God never copyrighted His Word, but told the Jews to "publish it"(Psalm 68:11, et al)
  35. God never instructed the Jews to make "versions" of His Word, but rather copy it, read it, publish it, obey it, teach it
  36. You cannot copy and publish a "version" without express written permission from.............THE PUBLISHER
  37. It is our only offensive weapon, and cannot be imperfect or dull
  38. No other Bible is a translation, but they are "versions"
  39. No Revival, Enlightenment, Renaissance ever came from anything in English other than the King James Bible
  40. God speaks English
  41. We do not conduct church services in Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic
  42. The 1881 Revision committee was led by Westcott and Hort, two acknowledged fathers of the New Age Movement and lauded by none other than Madame Blavatsky
  43. Westcott and Hort were into ghosts, denied the deity of the LORD Jesus Christ, were into magic, "automatic writing", talking to the dead, etc.
  44. In a debate over their Bible handling practices, they were shellacked, crushed, annihilated by Dean John Burgon, who wrote two volumes, one being "The Revision Revised"
  45. The King James Bible was used in public schools for history, English grammar, linguistics and other uses until the late 1800s
  46. People, including children raised on it, and foreigners as well, understand it.
  47. Nothing on earth of any sort has ever been discovered in any way and in any place that can show error to the King James Bible
  48. It is written at a lower grade level than any "modern" version
  49. Not one attempt has ever been made to "update the archaic language" but rather to supplant it with inferior mss and word changes
  50. It used to be disputed what God meant.........now it is over what He ACTUALLY SAID
  51. If the Bible is not the Final Authority, then man decides what God said, not God
  52. God wrote to the Gentiles in the Church Age in a Gentile language, universally spoken more than any other, and simply
  53. The Word of God was NEVER EVER written to scholars.....not even one time. It was written to shepherds, farmers, fishermen, housewives, children

    • Nehemiah (cupbearer)
    • Matthew (tax collector)
    • Saul (mass murderer, Pharisee)
    • David (adulterer, murderer, king)
  55. God let His Word be refined underground, through the deaths of martyrs
  56. God resurrected His Word after the fulfillment of Amos 8:11
  57. ONLY The King James Bible translation was done publicly, with public input to correct typist errors, printing errors
  58. ALL other versions until today are done secretly by "scholars" who claim they have more knowledge than you, "the latest findings"
  59. "Oldest and best mss do not contain ____" is a lie, since oldest is not best, it is simply oldest, making it meaningless, since the enemy has corrupted the Word since the Garden (Genesis 3) and man since also (2 Corinthians 2:17)
  60. The "Modern Versions" are missing words, entire verses and doctrines, and even sometimes change a modern word to an archaic one
  61. All of our doctrines (100%) and any beliefs and practices (and our salvation)we have are based upon that book of books, meaning it cannot contain errors
  62. God is not an "almost" God, preserving 99.999% of His Word, letting us find the lost parts one day to restore it
  63. God is not the author of confusion
  64. One alone is the number of unity, and two division
  65. The Bible USED to be read aloud in churches, as the frontispiece reads, "The holy bible appointed to be read in churches"
